There’s something happening North of the border. If you love freedom, then you need to pay attention to what is happening in Canada. Since the arrival of Covid-19 on our shores in 2020, various un-elected officials in Canada have been initiating measures in the name of public health and safety, which have abrogated the Canadian Charter of Rights and freedoms. The Charter is the Canadian version of the US Constitution. The Christian believer can now witness Biblical eschatology marching in step with current events taking place in Canada.
In section two of The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms it states as follows…
“Fundamental Freedoms Section 2. Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms: (a) freedom of conscience and religion; (b) freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication; (c) freedom of peaceful assembly; and (d) freedom of association.”
Canada’s fundamental freedoms are clearly stated. Right now, there is a curfew in the Canadian Province of Quebec, whereby you must be off of the streets by no later than 10:00 PM, or be subject to arrest. Police roam the streets of Montreal in riot squads looking for people who are out for a walk. This is the second time a curfew has been levied on Quebecers. The first attempt at imposing such measures was lifted after huge public protests broke out in the Summer of 2021 in Montreal. The reason given this time to the Quebec people by their officials is this must be done to stop the spread of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19.
Across Canada draconian measures have been enacted against the freedom of movement interprovincially. Those travelling by vehicle across the country must have their papers to show police their need to travel is “essential,” as defined according to the various provincial measures, or travelers will be turned back. Freedom of movement is guaranteed in the Canadian Charter. Once again the reason given to justify the abrogations is Covid-19.
Christian Pastors have been repeatedly harassed and arrested across Canada for refusing to close their churches under provincial health restrictions. A pastor in New Brunswick named Philip James Hutchins, of His Tabernacle Family Church in St. Johns, was recently arrested and jailed, while his congregation continues to be watched by police.
In Manitoba, Pastor Tobias Tissen, of Church of God Restoration, near Sarta, Manitoba, was arrested for holding church services amidst a ban by the Provincial Health Ministry.
In Alberta, Pastor Artur Pawlowski, who has been feeding the homeless of downtown Calgary for 23 years, has been arrested three times, and his activities continue to be monitored by local police.
In Lethbridge, Alberta, Pastor James Coats of Grace Life Church, was arrested and his entire church building fenced off by police to deny access by the congregation.
In Ontario, Pastor Henry Hildebrandt, of the Church of God in Alymer, was fined and charged for holding indoor services, then the church was ticketed and fined once again for holding outdoor services after they were locked out by police. The fines are $35,000.00 CAD for the congregation, $10,000.00 CAD for Pastor Hildebrant himself, and $3,000.00 CAD for his assistant Pastor, Peter Wall.
Across Canada clergy are being targeted with fines and summary arrests for exercising their Charter liberties. Canada has become a far left socialist society, which is now hostile to Christianity.
What’s going on North of the border, gives us a preview of what far left socialism, and woke political agenda will look like in the United States in the near future if proper vigilance is not exercised now ! The implications for the average Christian believer are clear. Very little coverage of the oppression of the Canadian Church has been given in the Canadian news media, and almost nothing at all in US mainline news, with the exception of FOX News.
In Canada, the over-reaching hand of government has taken advantage of a world wide health crisis, and made a successful grab at Canadian’s basic rights and freedoms. While mandates and bylaws stipulating churches remain closed across Canada, these charter violating Provincial acts are in contradiction to the federal laws allowing freedom of assembly and freedom of religion. Canadians are being told they must avoid large gatherings, such as church and family gatherings, yet big box department stores, such as, Walmart, Canadian Tire, Costco, and others remain open to thousands of people per day, seven days a week!
Moreover, these events echo the warnings and prophecies given in Biblical Scripture. Is this mere political opportunism taking its typical course, or is this end times Biblical eschatology unfolding before our eyes ? Jesus made a very politically and theologically profound statement when he said to the Pharisees and Sadducees, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red, and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.” We must look around us and remember the Scriptures, or else we risk becoming the frog in the pot, and getting boiled, because we only realized what is really happening all too late.
The Apostle Paul sternly warned us over two thousand years ago in his letter to the Thessalonian Church, when he wrote, “For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now restrains it will continue until he is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will slay with the breath of His mouth and annihilate by the majesty of His arrival. The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the working of Satan, with every kind of power, sign, and false wonder, and with every wicked deception directed against those who are perishing, because they refused the love of the truth that would have saved them. For this reason God will send them a powerful delusion so that they believe the lie, in order that judgment may come upon all who have disbelieved the truth and delighted in wickedness.”
We’re running out of time. America cannot avoid judgement, it can only fight to delay it. Death is the only true democracy. Everyone must participate in it, and no one can sit it out. We cast our votes with our immortal souls. Therefore, let us remain vigilant and redeem the time for the days are evil. “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.”
